Note: Each scheme has its own last date, and dates are often extended. For the current 2026-27 deadlines, see our State Scholarship 2026-27 last date update and the Announcement section of the portal.

Who Can Apply for Odisha Scholarships?

Each scheme has its own rules based on class or course, category, family income and marks. In general, state scholarships are for:

  • Odisha residents studying regularly in a government, aided or recognised institution.
  • SC, ST, OBC/SEBC and EBC students (pre-matric and post-matric schemes).
  • Meritorious students of any category who meet the marks and income limits (merit schemes).
  • Special groups such as students with disability, orphans, girls and children of construction workers.

The easiest way to find your schemes is the portal’s Check Eligibility tool: enter your category, course, family income and last exam marks to see the schemes you may qualify for. Being shown a scheme does not guarantee the scholarship.

Eligibility Rules of the Main Schemes

For all these schemes, the money is paid only into the student’s own Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Income means the parents’ or guardian’s annual income from all sources.

Documents Required for Odisha Scholarship

The portal lists these key documents. Keep clear scanned copies ready before you start:

  • Student’s Aadhaar number, with a working mobile number linked to Aadhaar (for OTP)
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Parent’s or guardian’s income certificate – see our Odisha income certificate guide
  • Caste certificate for SC, ST and OBC/SEBC students (EBC students give a self-declaration) – see our caste certificate guide
  • Residence certificate (for merit schemes) – see our residence certificate guide
  • Front page of the bank passbook (account number and IFSC)
  • Academic certificates from matriculation onwards and the last mark sheet
  • College ID card (merit schemes), disability certificate or hostel certificate if applicable

Our tip: Your name, gender and date of birth are taken directly from Aadhaar and cannot be edited on the portal. If any of these is wrong in Aadhaar, get it corrected first, otherwise your application may get stuck at verification.

How to Apply for Odisha Scholarship Online

Follow these steps on the official portal:

  1. Open scholarship.odisha.gov.in.
  2. New user: register with your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. Your User ID and password come by SMS and email.
  3. Log in and choose the Department and Scheme.
  4. Fill in student, academic, eligibility and bank details and upload documents. Use “Save as draft” to finish later; you can fill it in several sittings.
  5. Check the preview and submit. After final submission you cannot edit it yourself.
  6. Download and print the form. The final locked application carries a barcode.

For Class IX–X pre-matric scholarships, parents submit the documents in school and the Head Master or Head Mistress makes the online application for eligible students.

Freeship Card for ST and SC Students

ST and SC students joining a new course can apply for a Freeship Card on the portal with their income and caste certificates. Once the District Welfare Officer approves it, institutions are asked to admit the student without pre-payment of fees, and the card stays valid for the whole course. The card alone does not guarantee payment: you must still apply for the scholarship on the portal and get it sanctioned.

Institute Verification: What Happens After You Submit

After you submit, your application goes to your school, college or institute. The institute’s scholarship nodal officer checks your details and documents and forwards (validates) the application. It then goes to the approving authority of the department, such as the District Welfare Officer (DWO), for sanction.

  • Institutes have their own validation deadline. For e-Medhabruti 2026-27 fresh applications, students could apply until 26 October 2026 and institutes can validate until 4 November 2026.
  • Found a mistake after submitting? Tell your institute’s scholarship nodal person. The institute can “Revert” the application so you can correct it and submit again.
  • Institute or course missing from the drop-down list? Ask your institute to contact the District Welfare Officer of its district to register it.

How to Check Odisha Scholarship Status and Payment

  1. Go to the Know Your Status page of the portal.
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number or Application Number.
  3. Click “Get OTP” and enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
  4. Your applicant information and application status are shown (for example, pending at the institute, pending with the approving authority, approved or rejected).

Approved scholarships are paid yearly by direct transfer to the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account. The portal does not publish a fixed payment date.

Rejection or Deficiency: Common Reasons and Fixes

An application can be sent back or rejected at the institute or department level. Common problems and fixes:
