What Is OPSC?
OPSC is Odisha’s State Public Service Commission. Under Article 320 of the Constitution, its duty is to conduct exams for appointments to the State’s services. OPSC recruits mainly for Group-A and Group-B posts. For example, AEE and Geologist are Group-A posts, while Ayurvedic Medical Officer and Assistant Public Prosecutor are Group-B posts.
OPSC sits at Loka Seva Ayog Bhavan, Kataka (Cuttack). It recommends selected candidates in order of merit, and the department then issues the appointment.
Do not mix OPSC up with the other two commissions. OSSC (Staff Selection Commission) runs state-level exams such as CGLRE and CTSRE, and OSSSC (Sub-Ordinate Staff Selection Commission) fills district cadre Group-B and Group-C posts. For all Odisha job portals in one place, see our Odisha government jobs 2026 guide; school teacher jobs are in our Odisha teacher recruitment 2026 guide.

Age Limit, Odia Knowledge and Category Rules
- Age: the 2026-27 advertisements for AEE, Ayurvedic Medical Officer, Geologist and Lecturer use 21 to 42 years as on 1 January 2026, which means born between 2 January 1984 and 1 January 2005.
- Age relaxation (as stated in the AEE advertisement): 5 years for SC, ST, SEBC, women and ex-servicemen; 10 years for persons with disabilities (40% or more permanent disability); 15 years in total for PwD candidates who are also SC, ST or SEBC.
- Odia: you must read, write and speak Odia, with Odia passed at Class VII, Middle School or matric level (or a recognised Odia test).
- SEBC certificate: must be issued within 3 years before the application date. For AEE, it must be dated on or after 23 October 2023. An OBC certificate is not accepted in place of an SEBC certificate.

How to Apply for OPSC Recruitment Online
- Go to opsc.gov.in and click Apply Online. This opens the e-Chayan portal (opscechayan.in).
- Click Register and create your login with a valid e-mail ID and mobile number.
- Log in and fill the one-time Profile. Save it. The same profile is used for all later OPSC advertisements.
- Upload a recent passport-size photo, your signature and left thumb impression (maximum 150 KB each).
- Open Online Application, find your advertisement and click “Click Here” to apply. The system checks your eligibility first.
- Upload the documents asked for, pay the fee online if your category has to pay, and submit.
Our tip: check every detail before you submit. OPSC says an application once submitted is final, and no changes are allowed. False information or fake documents make the application void at any stage.
OPSC Application Fee
- For posts with a written exam (for example Ayurvedic Medical Officer and Geologist), the fee is ₹700, paid online by card, UPI, net banking or wallet.
- SC and ST candidates are exempt. PwD candidates are also exempt in the Ayurvedic Medical Officer and Geologist advertisements. Check your own advertisement.
- The fee is refunded only to candidates who actually appear in all papers of the written exam. The refund goes back to the same payment mode after the written exam.
- AEE (Advt. No. 13 of 2026-27) has no fee, because selection is through GATE scores.
- After the final result of a descriptive exam, a mark sheet or a copy of an answer script costs ₹400 each (per paper), if asked for within 60 days.

The selection method depends on the post:
- GATE score + interview: AEE (Advt. 13 of 2026-27), with a 90:10 weightage.
- Written exam only (objective): Ayurvedic Medical Officer.
- Written exam + interview: Geologist, Lecturer, Assistant Agriculture Engineer.
- Prelims + Mains + interview: OCS, Assistant Public Prosecutor, AEE (Civil) OMES.
Document verification is usually held 8 to 10 days before the interview, and the call letter is downloaded from your OPSC login.
